Let Me Take you to the Island Festival of Writing
Rathlin Island 2008
A series of forces have come into play during the planning of this year’s festival that have put things beyond our control. Sadly after much soul searching we are cancelling this year's event. We are taking this year out to consolidate our position and re apply ourselves to the 2009 festival so that we can celebrate the tenth year as it deserves to be celebrated. We have tried all avenues and exhausted every possibility re funding for this years festival and have drawn a blank. It is unfair to allow the expectation that the festival is to happen to go on beyond this date
Thanks for all your interesting the event. If writers would like to be put on the mailing list for next year’s festival please send details to info@stoneireland.com

BBC Writersroom Roadshows
We're taking the BBC writersroom countrywide. Hear us talk about how our unsolicited scripts system works - and you can even give us your script in person.
Ever wondered what happens to your script when you send it in? Exactly how we assess your work and what we're looking for? What grabs us and what puts us off?
Here's your chance to put your questions to the people who assess up to 10,000 scripts a year for the BBC. You can also bring your script to hand in to us in person - but please make sure it meets our guidelines.
The first roadshow was at the end of June in Edinburgh, and hosted by Kate Rowland, the BBC's Creative Director, New Writing.
We'll be taking the roadshow around the country in 2008, so watch this space for details of further events.
Planned locations include:

The Recusant Seeks Submissions
the Recusant is a radical web journal publishing and promoting non-conformist poetry, prose and polemic. We seek to champion sincere writing which puts as much emphasis on 'subject' as on 'style' - all types of both considered, but with particular interest in 'unfashionable themes' such as poverty (material; spiritual), status anxiety, mental health, and all other forms of fall out from capitalist society. Deadline 29 Sept 2008
**Ongoing submissions** the Recusant www.therecusant.org.uk
Founder and editor: Alan Morrison
the Recusant seeks to give a voice to the more dissident and marginalised voices of the literary community - the Caudwells, WH Davies's, Orwells, Tressells of today. Polemical writing, articles on British and international Left literature, and socially-inclined prose and poetry, are particularly welcome. We believe it's time for writers to speak out on the important issues of today and that writing has as much a social contribution to make as it does an artistic one.
With over 12,000 visits since September 2007, the Recusant keeps counting. Our contributors cover a wide range of talents from the promising newcomer to the equally promising 'name', and an international reach with voices from Australia, Austria, Canada, India, Malta, New Zealand, Sweden, South Africa, United States and the UK.
Please email all submissions either as word docs or in the body of the email to: therecusant@yahoo.co.uk and with 'Recusant Submission' in the title box. You can also submit via a link on the website itself.
